How to drink ODE

Lots of ice. 2 parts tonic. 1 part ODE.

Five seconds. No shaker, no syrup.

  1. A large glass.

Ideally a highball or wine glass.

  2. Filled to the brim with ice.

The more ice, the colder the drink stays.

  3. 2 parts tonic.

10 cl. A classic tonic water, regular or dry. Nothing with added flavours.

  4. 1 part ODE.

5 cl, straight from the fridge. Done.

Fill levels for your glass

Finally! An aperitif for grown-ups.

Aperitif means: the drink before the meal. ODE means: natural, more flavour.

Why all this?

We were out for a great dinner. The menu well thought out, the wines perfect. Only the aperitif – sweet, artificial, like a bag of gummy bears.

We asked ourselves: why is there no aperitif with the same standards as the food and the wine? We looked – and found none. So we developed one ourselves. Over two and a half years. From scratch.

Our own recipe.
Our own production.
Our own design.

Today, five years later: listed at KaDeWe, Manufactum and Gebrüder Heinemann. Served in great bars and restaurants – from Berlin to Copenhagen to California.

About us

What we do differently

Many aperitifs simply taste artificial. ODE tastes different. It comes down to these three things.

  1. The essences
Made in-house at the ODE/LAB Berlin

    The essences

We make our essences ourselves, using our own process. We work with fruit, peels, roots and woods when their aroma is at its strongest. None of it comes ready-made from a catalogue.

  2. The wine
    Riesling from Rheinhessen

    The wine

Our base is wine, not water with sugar. A Riesling we developed with winemaker Nico Espenschied. Its acidity and sweetness carry the essences.

  3. The recipe
    650+ ingredients tested

    The recipe

We come from design, not from the spirits world. Our question: what does a fruit really taste like? Two and a half years, more than 650 natural ingredients, countless test runs. The result was a taste that didn't exist before.

Why ODE

Why ODE tastes different.

  • Wine, not water!

Most well-known aperitifs are built on water. Water tastes of nothing, so it needs a lot of sugar and flavouring. We use Riesling. It already brings acidity, fruit and depth, and our essences go on top.

  • Less sugar!

Bright Lemon has 13.6 g of sugar per 100 ml, Ruby Wood 9.5 g. Less sweet, just as much flavour.

  • No artificial additives!

No artificial flavourings, no artificial colourings. The colour comes from the ingredients and reacts to light, hence the dark glass.
