Negroni Week September 16-22, 2024: A Classic Reimagined
Negroni Week is just around the corner, and that means it's time to pay homage to one of the world's most iconic cocktails. Since its invention in Italy in the early 20th century, the Negroni has secured a firm place in the hearts of cocktail lovers worldwide. The classic combination of gin, vermouth, and Campari is known for its bittersweet taste and distinctive red color. But as with any timeless drink, there is also room for innovation and reinterpretation with the Negroni.
The Negroni was supposedly created by Italian Count Camillo Negroni, who, in a bar in Florence, had his Americano (a cocktail of vermouth, Campari, and soda) enhanced with a dash of gin instead of soda. Since then, the Negroni has been a symbol of refined simplicity and timeless elegance.
This year during Negroni Week, we want to elevate this classic to a new level – with two fresh variations that respect tradition but surprise with the natural flavors of ODE.
ODE Lemon Negroni
The ODE Lemon Negroni is a zesty twist on the classic, taking the bitter and sweet notes of the traditional Negroni and giving them a modern touch with the freshness of ODE Bright Lemon Aperitif.
Ingredients:
- 30 ml ODE Bright Lemon Aperitif
- 30 ml Gin
- 30 ml Vermouth
- Ice cubes
- Lemon zest for garnish
Preparation:
- Add all ingredients to a mixing glass with ice.
- Stir well until the drink is thoroughly chilled.
- Strain into a glass with fresh ice cubes.
- Garnish with a lemon zest and enjoy.
This Negroni offers a citrusy freshness that is perfect for long summer evenings.
ODE Ruby Negroni
The ODE Ruby Negroni is a deeper, fruitier variation of the classic, acquiring a special forest fruit and wood character from ODE Ruby Wood Aperitif. This interpretation combines the typical bitter taste of the Negroni with an earthy depth.
Ingredients:
- 30 ml ODE Ruby Wood Aperitif
- 30 ml Gin
- 30 ml Vermouth
- Ice cubes
- Orange zest for garnish
Preparation:
- Add all ingredients to a mixing glass with ice.
- Stir until the drink is thoroughly chilled.
- Strain into a glass with ice.
- Garnish with an orange zest.
The Ruby Negroni impresses with its balanced bitterness and the subtle woody taste that gives the drink an unexpected depth.
